I was reading Peter Bernstein's "Against the Gods" and came across this figure that depicted the Philippines as the best performing stock market from January 1992 through June 1994 with a monthly rate of return of 4%, even outperforming the Standard & Poor's 500 Index. Of course, this was the beginning of the so-called real-estate bubble in the Philippines which eventually bursted two years after in 1996.
So what's the point in blogging this? Well, I noticed the author's consistent mispelling of our country ('Philipines' - appearing twice in the book) which I took as a hint of lousy copyreading. But then, it showcased how the Philippines faired in the global economy 15 years ago and to think how we've come at the present makes me think if we will be as prosperous as those years.
